YOUTH & YOUNG ADULTS
Ages 12–25
Virginia Christian
Director of Youth & Young Adult Formation
6th–7th Grade Sunday School
Sundays — 10:10 am
The 6th–7th grade Sunday school class will meet in its own classroom downstairs. Classes will be focused on the people of the Old Testament and how their stories inform our understanding of God, the church and ourselves. We believe these lessons form a vital core of Christian formation, preparing our youth for Confirmation and beyond. Detailed information is available for parents, and classes will be taught by Emma Burgess and Mona Dominguez.
8th Grade Confirmation Class
Sundays — 10:10 am
Also meeting in its own classroom downstairs, the 8th grade Confirmation class will be a months-long process, beginning this fall and concluding with Confirmation Sunday in the spring. More than just learning about scripture and history, this class is meant to help our youth on the journey of laying claim to their faith as their own. Detailed information is available for parents, and classes will be taught by Will Meadows.
9th–12th Grade Sunday School
Sundays — 10:10 am
Our high school youth will continue to meet in the EYC room on Sunday mornings. As they are approaching the independence of young adulthood, conversations and activities will be more fully centered around their own lives, experiences and questions. Detailed information is available for parents, and classes will be led by Virginia Christian, Neally Lewis and Parker Lewis.
Episcopal Youth Community (EYC)
Sundays — 5:30–7 pm
The EYC includes, serves and encourages all youth in 6th–12th grades—helping them to grow into compassionate, faithful, committed followers of Christ. During the school year, EYC meets on Sunday evenings from 6–7:30 pm for large group activities and games, dinner together, prayer and songs in an atmosphere ripe for fun, fellowship and building relationships. We also work together in service for the church and within our community. We are also active with the other youth groups throughout our Diocese. If you have any questions or if you would like to be added to our weekly email list, please contact Virginia Christian.
Happening in Alabama
10th–12th Grades
Happening is a three-day weekend during which 10th–12th graders spend time seriously considering the person and teaching of Jesus Christ in a relaxed, fun, informal and loving atmosphere. The weekends are held each year at a different parish around the Diocese of Alabama. There are opportunities for everyone to share, discuss, learn and live with fellow Christians in an environment of acceptance and understanding and experience a personal encounter with the living Christ, as expressed in the traditions of the Episcopal Church. For more information, click Happening.
College Bible Study & Homemade Dinner
Mondays — 6 pm
Every Monday that classes are in session at Auburn University, we invite college-aged adults to be fed, both spiritually and literally with a home-cooked meal! The first part of our time together begins with sharing a meal prepared and served by our parishioners. Following dinner, we then explore scripture and its relevance to young adult lives. Our evening concludes with a short student-led compline service. Additionally, there are opportunities during the year for diocesan-wide fellowship with other college ministry groups. Our evenings will be led by Virginia Christian and our intern, Lila Meadows. If you are interesting in either cooking, hosting, or both for our college parishioners, please contact Virginia.
Vocare
Ages 18–30 (typically)
Vocare is a weekend of reflection and relaxation in an inclusive, supportive, Christ-like community. It is an intentional and deliberate time of renewal away from the congestions and confusions of daily life to discern your calling. You don’t have to be Episcopalian, from or live in the Diocese of Alabama, or identify as really anything at all to attend, but an open heart and mind are encouraged. Vocare is a weekend all about you, and it can be whatever you want it to be. To learn more, click Vocare.
